peace

Away from the monuments, the art, the fountains, this is the part of Rome that made me fall in love with it when I first came here, just to visit, several years ago.
Just a few steps away from Piazza Navona, down some dark winding streets, lies Via della Pace, and its namesake caffè, Bar della Pace, Bar of Peace. An old stone palazzo covered in creeping ivy, with art-nouveau-era wood panelling inside at the bar, and tables spilling outside in the warm months, it’s simply gorgeous. The street is fairly quiet, with a restaurant across the way, and a few people strolling by, but certainly not busy. Not if you know what most pretty streets in Rome look like during tourist season kind of busy, not by a long shot. And so, it feels like a deep breath of air, even just walking by. The kind of place you can sit for hours, with a cappuccino and a book, or a drink and a good conversation.
